Jay-Z, Royal Albert Hall, September 27th 2006
So after pursuing every possible avenue to get my Jay -Z ‘at the *garden aka the Royal Albert Hall ticket’, I made it to the historic gig, even if it was last minute dot com stylee, leaving me £55 quid out of pocket. A small price to pay, I’ll have you know it, as I’m fairly sure that we won’t be witnessing the events of September 27th again anytime soon.
In a nutshell, Jay smashed it, effortlessly performing back-to-back hits from Reasonable Doubt to the Black Album. Nasty Nas made an appearance which sent the R.A.H faithful into a frenzy, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin popped up, and not only played piano on 'Dead Presidents' as Jay and Nas traded verses over the historic hustlers anthem, but he also offered the CEO of hip hop a hand on Ain’t No Love (Heart of The City), throw Gwyneth Paltrow in there, singing, yes singing on Song Cry and Beyonce getting her Crazy In Love and Déjà vu on and you’ve got a pretty good gig.
I know that Carlsberg don’t do concerts, but if they did I’m not sure even they could have out done this one!
* Apologies, I’ve seen Fade To Black one too many times!
